The Southern University Ag Center will participant in Ag Is America’s Twitter Town Hall in conjunction with the University of the District of Columbia, Kansas State University, and North Dakota State University on Oct.14 from 9:30 a.m. - 10 a.m. CT.
The Southern University Ag Center will discuss its Fast Track Gardening Program, which provides agricultural training to incarcerated and adjudicated youth, during the town hall meeting.
The program utilizes both classroom and hands-on activities to train youth on communication, life skills and the establishment of horticultural garden plots. Gardening classes are currently taught at two facilities in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Upon the completion of the program, youth are awarded certificates that can be used to support an employment application at horticultural-related establishments and for judge presentation in court to display program participation and compliance.
What is a Twitter Town Hall?
A Twitter Town Hall, like a public meeting or seminar, gives participants an opportunity to engage in a Q&A session over Twitter - a digital public forum. Research and Extension specialists from the four universities will be responding to your questions as they come in.
The town hall will occur from 9:30 – 10 AM CT. The easiest way to participate is to tweet a question to @AGisAmerica and include the hashtag #AGisChat in your tweet. We will begin answering questions starting promptly at 9:30 AM CT, but you can submit your questions now! Research and extension experts from each institution will be on our panel of experts to answer questions about youth development, drones, health, nutrition, urban agriculture, and much more.
