Baton Rouge, La. – The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center, along with its medical marijuana partner, Ilera Holistic Healthcare, held a press conference on July 27 to mark the release of its THC product line, AYO, in the Shreveport area.
The press conference was held at Shreveport, Louisiana’s The Healing Clinics, LLC.
Delivering remarks during the press conference were: Janana Snowden, Ph.D., Southern University Ag Center Institute for Medicinal Plants Director and Southern University Baton Rouge Agriculture Professor; Chanda Macias, Ph.D., Ilera Healthcare CEO; Adrian Perkins, Mayor of Shreveport, Louisiana; and Kathryn Thomas, Founding Partner and CEO of The Healing Clinics, LLC.
Southern University became the first Historical Black University to launch its own THC medical cannabis products on July 1, 2020. The University also released a line of hemp-derived CBD product line, Alafia Healthcare on January 25, 2020. Making Southern the only HBCU to produce both CBD and THC products.
The launch of AYO, followed the state’s expansion of laws to allow more patients to choose medical marijuana for treatment. Gov. John Bel Edwards signed into law on June 11 ACT No 286, which allows any state-licensed physicians to recommend medical marijuana to any of their patients to find relief for any condition.
