Using
Louisiana’s native grasses as a source of fuel
Baton Rouge, LA – Marlin Ford, Assistant Professor of
Sustainable Agriculture at the Southern University Agricultural Research &
Extension Center, will present his findings on the use of Louisiana’s native
grasses as an alternative fuel source and the benefits of using biofuels during
the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) webinar, “Getting to YES on
Element 10 through Transportation Alternatives.”
The webinar, which is part of the
USDA’s Sustainable Operations (SusOps) Peer Learning Webinar Series, will be
held on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. PST/1 p.m. EST. The online training will
focus on strategies for reducing fuel use, increasing alternative
transportation options and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Other topics to
be covered include:

Electric Bicycles, Clean and Green
Transportation Alternative
·
Elective No Idling Policy
Ford has been employed with the
Southern University Ag Center since 2012. He has overseen the implementation,
operation and secured funding for the native grass research project since 2013.
He earned his Doctorate of
Philosophy in Urban Forestry from Southern University and A&M College and
Master’s Degrees in Public Administration and Urban Forestry from Grambling
State University and Southern University, respectively. Ford also holds a
Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from Southern University
and a Bachelor of Arts and Science in General Studies with minor degrees in
Landscape Architecture and Geography from Louisiana State University.
