SU/ LSU Ag Centers recognize faculty and staff during Annual Awards Ceremony

Baton Rouge, La. – The Southern University Ag Center, along with the LSU AgCenter and the LSU College of Agriculture, recognized the winners of their annual faculty and staff awards during a Dec. 16 ceremony held in the Iona Burden Conference Center of the LSU AgCenter’s Botanic Gardens.

SU Ag Center interim Chancellor Adell Brown, Jr., Ph.D., presented Fatemeh Malekian, Ph.D., Professor of Nutrition and Food Science, with the Chancellor’s Outstanding Research Scientist Award. Kenyetta Nelson-Smith, Ph.D., Extension Specialist for Community and Economic Development, received the Chancellor’s Outstanding Specialist Award and former Professor of Urban Forestry Andra Johnson, Ph.D., received the Chancellor’s Outstanding Faculty Award.

Receiving the LSU College of Agriculture Teaching Awards were: Brian Marx, Professor in the Department of Experimental Statistics; Georgianna Turri, Associate Professor in the School of Nutrition and Food Sciences; Maud Walsh, Professor in the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences and Jeff Beasley, Associate professor in the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences.

From the LSU AgCenter, Gerry Romero, a Research Associate at the Central Research Station, received the Associate Award. The Ganelle Bullock Outstanding Service Award was presented to Carol LeDoux, Administrative Program Specialist of the Rice Research Station in Rayne.

The Louisiana Agriculture Magazine Article of the Year Award was presented to Richard Keim, Associate Professor of the School of Renewable Natural Resources, for his article titled “Water Management at Catahoula Lake.” Dustin Harrell, Associate Professor in the Rice Research Station and Michael Blazier, Associate Professor of the Northwest Region, both received recognition for their service on the Louisiana Agriculture Magazine Editorial Board from 2013-2016.

Vermilion Parish Extension Agents Shannan and Hilton Waits received the Rosalie Bivin 4-H Award.

The Floyd S. Edmiston Award was presented to Calcasieu Parish Extension Agent Jimmy Meaux; Dustin Harrell received the G&H Seed Research Award; Terrebonne Parish Extension Agent Barton Joffrion received the Extension Excellence Award; Eric Webster, Professor in the School of Plant, Environmental and Soil Sciences was awarded the Doyle Chambers Research Award; Louisiana Master Farmer Program Team members Ernest Girouard, the program’s coordinator; Allen Hogan, Extension Agent; James Hendrix, Associate Area Agent and Donna Morgan, Associate Area Agent received the Denver T. and Ferne Loupe Extension Team Award and the Tipton Team Research Award was presented to the Rice Sheath Blight Resistance Development Team consisting of team members Steve Linscombe, Professor & Director of the Southwest Region; Jim Oard, Professor in the Rice Research Station; Don Groth, Professor and Research Coordinator of the Rice Research Station and Jong Ham, Associate Professor in the Plant Pathology and Crop Physiology Department.
