Baton Rouge, La. – The Southern University Ag Center will
host the St. Helena Parish Ag Day on June 7 at the Fifth Ward Recreation Center,
31676 Hwy. 16, in Amite, Louisiana.
The Ag Day will include farm tours, a petting zoo, interactive workshops
on vertical gardening and edible landscapes.
There will also be hands-on
demonstrations on:
·
Raising Backyard Poultry
·
Hibiscus Transplanting
·
Building a Hydroponic System
“This event is being held so
farmers can showcase the activities on their farms and for the kids to see what
actually happens on a farm, where their food comes from and the process
involved in growing food,” said Burnell Muse, SU Ag Center Extension Agent and
Event Coordinator.
The Ag Day is co-sponsored by the
Southern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) Program and the
LSU AgCenter.
